Between May 16 and 19, the city of Sao Paulo was home to the 24th Hospitalar Fair, which included the Latin American Symposium on Rehabilitation and Assistive Technologies, which was held on May 18.

Organized by the Lucy Montoro Rehabilitation Network and the São Paulo State Secretariat for the Rights of the Person with Disability, the Symposium was supported by the Brazilian Association of Medical, Dental, Hospital and Laboratory Equipment (ABIMO). The coordinator of IMREA Clinical Research Center, Prof. Dr. Linamara Rizzo Battistella, and the superintendent of ABIMO, Paulo Henrique Fraccaro, chaired the opening ceremony.

The Symposium discussed the most important initiatives at the international level to strengthen rehabilitation and assistive technologies in health systems, focusing on the various health conditions that may benefit from investments in this field, as well as research and the development of the technology market in Latin America.

Following the opening session, Dr. Linamara presented the Recommendations to Strengthen Rehabilitation in Health Systems, launched in February 2017 by the World Health Organization, in Geneva, and the Rehabilitation 2030: A Call for Action, which offer new concepts and strategies in- and outpatient and home-based rehabilitation.
